Matthew Chernoff lives and works in South Florida. Chernoff’s interest in formation and illumination began in 2003.  What started as one-dimensional depictions, utilizing spray paint and makers, later transitioned into complex compositions in oil on linen which simulate a three-dimensional spatial field. His works begin as simple charcoal enhancements that lead to his highly meticulous manipulation of space and form. Chernoff’s canvases follow the admonition to “make it hard and make it beautiful.” The complexity of his paintings seek to draw attention to line, form and light. He received his B.F.A. and his work has been shown at numerous exhibitions throughout South Florida, including 100+ Degrees In The Shade in 2015.
